For almost seven years, residents of Taiz in Yemen have endured wave after wave of hardship. The war and conflict, unceasing violence. Then came the cholera, malnutrition, and COVID-19, which made healthcare impossible to afford for most.
It’s especially difficult to navigate war, hunger, and disease outbreaks when you’ve lost your vision. The vast majority of blindness in Yemen is caused by cataracts, which are completely preventable and curable. But the most vulnerable families can’t afford this routine procedure, forced to choose between affording to eat their next meal, or saving to pay for essential surgery.
With your generous donations during Ramadan, we’ve been able to provide 300 people in Taiz with life-changing cataract surgery, helping them to recover their eyesight and independence.
Working at Al-Taawun Hospital, we provided 1,234 consultations and surgery to 141 women and 157 men, and 2 children. Your donations also helped to provide 2 essential pieces of equipment – an ultrasonography A scan device and an autorefractor keratometer.
This project is just one example of how your generosity in Ramadan has a life-changing effect for real people. Not only do you help the person who received the surgery, but they are able to earn an income, study, and contribute to their families and communities with greater ease, and without having to rely on others to assist them.
Thank you for donating to our sight-saving surgery projects in Ramadan.
The Messenger (PBUH) said: Whoever brings ease to one in difficulty, Allah will make it easy for him in this life and the Hereafter.” (Sahih Muslim)
Human Appeal has been changing lives through our projects in Yemen since 2014. We’ve helped over 900,000 people during the course of the conflict, primarily through health projects and emergency food aid to tackle malnutrition. Last year, you helped us to support 429,137 people through projects combating malnutrition, cholera, COVID-19 and water shortages.
Help us to continue to light the way in Yemen.
